  • DrMVUA, No, The Beatles recorded the instrumental track with backing vocals on May 24th, 1962, then on June 7th, Sheridan added the lead vocal as a 2nd generation tape. But this version wasn't recorded in 1961. But it's true that Sheridan recorded an early version in December 1961 but without The Beatles.

  • This is a great track right here. I love this tune. Of all the lyricized versions I've heard, this had got to be my favorite.

  • In the early 1960 there was a vibrant rock scene in Hamburg with two venues: the Star Club and Top Ten. The promoters brought bands over from Liverpool. One of them was an unknown group: Beat Brothers (Pete Best drummer), later renamed the Beatles. Tony Sheridan was then a prominent musician in Hamburg and chose the Beat Brothers to accompany him for a recording. This is the Beatles' first recording ever. (see Wikipedia: Beatles in Hamburg)

  • Can anyone tell me what collection the pictures are from?

  • i had this 45 an was just alittle different when the first piano solo was played he this cat rythum

  • I found a Promo copy of this on Atco in a grab bag record lot! Made my day!

  • Wasn't this recorded in Hamburg in December 1961, when the Beatles were touring London? How could this be the Beatles? Wasn't this recorded as the "Beat Boys"? This is Sheridan's second studio session, the first being in June earlier that year *with* the Beatles lineup (minus Stu, of course, who had just left the group).

  • @PAULisDEADMANnumber9 I think its Pete, too.

  • very kool audio & rare photos. Regards, The '62 Mathew St. Band (1 Man-Full Group Retro)
