diving with ~12 bull sharks part 1 of 2

a large congregation of hungry bull sharks in playa del carmen come within inches of 2 lucky divers. the sharks excited by chum carry off the chum bucket to the amusement of biologist aaron eichstedt and the chagrin of a phantom divers divemaster later the sharks calm down and begin to move off. (see part 2)

two "lucky" divers?!? "Lucky" in that they were there to witness this foolish and EXTREMELY DANGEROUS behavior or lucky that they still have all their limbs and didn't get bit? It's a shame you can't be jailed for doing stupid stuff like this.

it's a good thing not everyone lives as safe a life as you must.....sometimes in order to experience something phenominal risk is required. this is true even in love. The dive was insured in the rare case that a shark would have acted abnormally aggressive towards me. i would have been able to seek medical care quite rapidly.

I'd rather experience them naturally as people have in Playa for years. However since the feeding has begun now you don't see them at Tortugas, Mo Che deep or other sites any longer - only where they're being fed. The increased risk to divers now that they are associating us with food is the real concern here. Thanks for contributing to that!

That's great that YOU were insured - hope the next unsuspecting diver who gets in the water when these animals are looking for a meal are as lucky.

As much as I love sharks I also respect them. Under water we are puny defenseless snacks for them no matter how strong we are. That is a suicide attempt in my opinion, this is crazy.
