Lake Station Firefighters Battle A Field Fire On 3-10-10

LSFD was dispatched to a report of heavy black smoke and visible flames in the area of Liverpool and Arizona. Crews arrived in the Englehart Subdivision to find a working field fire. Crews extinguished the fire without incident.

@N44949 Actually command was smart about this. Nothing was in danger other than brush so he let the bulk of it burn off wile firefighters stopped some of the spread. There really wasn't a need for a brush truck, besides the whole area was really muddy. Would have gotten stuck no doubt

1. where is the truck with water at n what are they use to beat the ground?

2. why are they just standing ther with no water wher was brush at?

@homeyroberts The fire was quite a distance to run a hose down to the fire, the firefighters were wearing packs with water in them and others had pump cans with water in them. The things they were using are actually called beaters.

@cpDq231 I would guess kids, the fire was in the middle of an empty field that was muddy and pretty soaked at the ground level

This is how you can tell a paid city deparment from others they tend to not have the right PPE to fight a grass fire and don't get the correct resoures.

I bet if they brought out a 6x6 that would not get stuck out there. It is nearly impossible to get them stuck in just mud.

Wow!! Lake Station should call the INDR Fire Headquarters and get some serious training in how to attack the different wildlands within the state! I don't think I would be attacking the head of the fire with a flapper especially with 10 foot flame lengths.
