Well stated. Thank you. USA has always been a melting pot and welcomed legal immigration. My grandparents came from Europe through Ellis Island, learned English after coming to this country and were proud of their accomplishments of working and owning a house. Why doesn't that sense of accomplishment and pride exist any longer??? English is the Universal language - learn it and speak it. If I go to another country, I will learn the language first, so I can communicate. Stop being ignorant.

About two words--thank you. I get a lot of use for that word here in the metro Detroit area. Even learned some Amharic when I went to Ethiopia. Still remember some words from that language. I just think it's flat out rude not to learn the language and try to use it when you're in the land that speaks it. Shows disrespect for the culture, the people, and the country.

In fifty years, people will be pressing two for English. Spanish will be number one. Get used to it.

Immigrants who do not learn English are hurting themselves, and limiting their ability to succeed In America. I would love all Americans to learn a second language, but people come from all over the world with hundreds of languages, and the only way we can all communicate is for people to all learn a common language.

Way to go. How much of the Chinese language did you retain? I still remember quite a bit of my German, though not much use for it here in Arizona.

Haha further below in the comments, the broad minded comments have thumbs down points. You can tell who's traveled to countries that don't natively use the roman alphabet, or at least consider that a factor.

Anyone who's offended by having more than one language in a country needs to get with the times. How else are we supposed to grow as a world? Or should we isolate ourselves like Japan did?
