  • @21melpomene Couldn't get away with that today. I do not think it would be appropriate for today either. But, in the 70's, which were so soon after the racial tensions of the 60's, I think the time was right to demonstrate absurdity (racism) by being absurd. Norman Lear did a great job at this with "All In The Family" and "The Jeffersons," both of which I think were good for race relations, assuming the viewers watched with an open mind.

  • @21melpomene I'm wondering the same thing... Had they said the opposite, say "Frosty the nigger", man the t.v. critics would've been all over them. I wonder why it was ok to say "honky" and not "nigger"...
