The first major task in our new home is taking up all the carpet and refinishing the 100-year-old hardwood floors beneath. Project time = about 9 days.

  • You are wrong about laying inexpensive garbage over such awesome looking hardwood. That floor is something you cannot mass produce unlike that crappy hardwood floor wannabe stuff that you are recommending.

  • This is extremely common in older houses. Nice floors with carpet over it. I like it. Remember to buff and recoat it every couple years

  • The low windows have beautiful original moldings but their low height is a hazard for small children- heads up! Looks like the fireplace was converted to a coal heater. Do you want to restore the tile facing in front and the ironwork grille or revert to the original wood burning setup?

  • no sound after first few minutes

  • Wow it looks great, i love hardwood flooring (the real stuff) . i have it in my house now and when i was growing up my family farm house has hardwood floors. Many years ago i installed carpet and it always broke my heart to go into an old house and put carpet down over all the nice hardwood floors. Sometimes i would pull up the old carpet to install new carpet and uncover some of the nicest looking floors i have ever seen, why they was ever covered up in the first place is anyones guess.

  • This video has some great before/ during/ and after job... looks, but it doesn't give the average joe blow the "initial evidence" of how tumultuous a job like this takes.

There is so much work that goes into it. And the details can get pretty technical. The way I see it is if you dare choose the do-it-yourself route, be prepared to take on a very hefty load of hard labor.

The outcome however, outweighs all the aching bones and pulled muscles. Just be sure to invest in some knee-pads.

    :)~

  • gorgeous floors! love the border! You can't get that look with inespensive garbage, like laminate.

  • nice multi-row border around the room

  • lol

  • I get a lot of old jobs like this. I am sure the video does not do it justice. I know how difficult these kind can be. From what I can see in the video; Nice Job!

  • did you realize the sound cuts out a short while into the video?
