Hey folks - fyi - the date ids actually Dec 5, 1974, They opened for Queen during queens first tour of Germany. I was supposed to go to the show but was not allowed to go - I was 14 - My friends dad, Kai Warner, was they guy who promoted Queen on this tour. I saw this clip on German TV sometime later in 1975 and was real bummed I could not go that night. I saw so many bands in this hall including Little feat, Necktar, Wishbone ash, Return to forever. On and on…A greet old concert hall..

@rolesvill yep he had health problems

I was privileged to see Ed play with Lynyrd Skynyrd in Birmingham, AL, in '73 or '74.

@benchmat : Steve Gaines was great in his tunes, Gary & Allen in all their stuff. Ed King is major NOT RECOGNIZED as a huge contributor to that early Lynyrd Skynyrd sound. Just Les Pauls and Firebirds alone could NOT get that edgy Fender twang sound Skynyrd is known for. Like in Swamp Music, what guitar is best for that intro?
-
@richietheripper : Ed King. He's just the SIGNITURE SOUND OF EVERY LYNYRD SKYNYRD SONG FROM ALABAMA TO SWAMP MUSIC TO MISSISSIPPI KID AND A HALF DOZEN OTHERS. THAT'S ALL HE IS. SOME FAT GUY IN A WHITE SHIRT WHO CAN PLAY A FUKIN' STRAT LIKE GOD. THAT'S FUKIN' IT...FOR FUCK SAKES MAN.

Ed King's riff became one great song.
