When a company gives "minimum specs" to run a game, they mean what will run the game without your computer completely shutting down, overheating or simply refusing to run the game. It's basically lies. It doesn't mean it will run well, and in fact will most likely be completely unplayable (IE, lagging, skipping, glitching, crashing) but, by the loosest definition, still running. "Recommended" specs are more like the enjoyable minimum for playing a game.

I'd love to play this game but I don't have a very good PC. I wish it was ported to the consoles. Sure, it would lose some of the good stuff but it'd still be awesome! Honestly, this game hasn't been selling too well and I don't blame that on actual gamers. I blame it on it not being advertised much and being only on the PC. It's like they are begging for it to flop.

The graphics and sidescrolling gun shots both look like shit. Contra doesn't look like fun.
...Nah, couldn't keep a straight face.

@Mettaler suprisingly not really, the minimum specs are Intel or AMD processor 2.0GHz, 1GB RAM, 4GB free hardrive space, windows xp 32-bit (service pack 2 or 3), Vidia GeForce 7800/7900/8600 series, ATI/AMD Radeon HD2600/3600 or 1800/X1900 series graphics card. So you really dont need too high specs :).

@jf028 just because you think the graphics are bad doesnt mean the game isnt fun... graphics have nothing to do with gameplay my friend.
