In a 1992 performance at the Zodiac club in Syracuse, NY, Mississippi-born Sterling Magee makes clear why the people of Harlem called him "Mister Satan." Joined by harpist Adam Gussow to form the duo Satan and Adam, Magee throws down a solo, seven minutes into this epic performance, that makes Robert Johnson, Steve Vai, and Stevie Ray Vaughan look like warmups for the real thing. Magee's composition is entitled "Mother Mojo."

  • Adam, do youremember what key harp you're playing?

  • I was playing an A harp in the key of E.

  • some of the best and rawest blues / harp & guitar ive heard. got the fire and sound to lift you up and make you wanna grab an instrument and start jammin right along with the video...

  • Thanks. Although the video quality isn't great, I'm glad the energy came through.

  • When we went into the studio to record this, a few months later, he played the 13 minute version. We edited it down to seven minutes for the "Mother Mojo" CD....

  • powerful! hope to hear a new version of this piece with the drums

  • in another video he says he calls himself that because he can go to a dark place (like hell) inside him and come out with something beautiful (or something along those lines)....

  • you guys are amazing

gussow, you gindick and jason ricci are like the harmonica trinity for the time being. i'm a beginner and i love all these videos.

i have one question though, i found a few answers but i figured you would be best at explaining

why did they call him mr. satan?

    keep it up adam!

  • I must say adam of all your videos that i have seen this is the best. hats off too you and mr. satan

  • I bought all 3 of your albums last night, I listened to Mother Mojo first and I knew I was in for a treat with the rest of these songs. The song gives you the urge to get up and move around, just like Muddy Waters' Got My Mojo Workin back in the day. Great job!

  • who needs video, when the music makes up for it all. anywayz thanx and your welcome. post more good stuff.
