Allison Crowe acapella - performing the "hidden" track to her "Secrets" album/CD. This song has its roots in traditional Irish and Scottish tunes - to which, in 1808, Thomas Moore wrote the lyrics made globally popular in recordings by legendary Australian coloratura soprano, Dame Nellie Melba (in 1909), and, the great Irish tenor Count John McCormack (in 1935).

Allison Crowe has her own Celtic roots, and, sometimes, performs this song in concert as an encore. (There is a concert recording of it on her "Live at Wood Hall" album/CD.)

Believe Me If All

Traditional Irish Aire w. words by Thomas Moore
As performed by Allison Crowe

Believe me, if all those endearing young charms,
Which I gaze on so fondly today,
Were to change by tomorrow,
and fleet in my arms,
Like fairy-gifts fading away,

Thou wouldst still be adored,
as this moment thou art,
Let thy loveliness fade as it will,
And around the dear ruin each wish of my heart,
Would entwine itself verdantly still.

It is not while beauty and youth are thine own,
And thy cheek unprofaned by a tear,
That the fervour and faith of a soul can be known,
To which time has but made thee more dear:

No, the heart that has truly loved never forgets,
But as truly loves on to the close,
As the sun-flower turns to her god, when he sets,
The same look which she gave when he rose.
