Samhuinn or Samhain (sow-wen) is held on October 31st. Derived from Old Gaelic it translates roughly as "summer's end" and is celebrated as the Celtic New Year. A last chance to revel with friends before the weather turned.
Rooted in traditional Goloshan plays, a mighty battle between the Summer and Winter Kings takes place. The fight is to the death until the Cailleach (kal-ach) mercifully intervenes, restoring life to the weak and failing Summer King.
