This was posted for information purposes! I phoned my vet when she started coughing at 3am, at that point she was coughing like this once an hour. I was advised to video her since she wasn't do it all the time. I took her to the vets after I'd taken this video - yes @ 5am on a SUNDAY morning. They said she'd got something stuck in her throat. I took her back the following day as she still wasn't right. She had Kennel Cough, with a secondary chest infection.

  • Thats throwing uo not KEnnels Cough!

Funny, the first vet we saw said she'd got something stuck in her throat. When I took her back they diagnosed Kennel Cough with secondary chest infection. It took two lots of antibiotics to clear up.

  • Yes, she's all better now thank you! It was a £300 ($600 US) vets bill though and took the best part of 3 weeks!

  • thank you so much for sharing! my dog got this yesterday afternoon, night was constantly like this video and rushed him to the vet this am! she said immediately it could be kennel cough but i still had my doubts at home that something might be stuck in his troath since i had never heard kennel cough before. You just put my mind at rest a little... hope the antibiotics will help... thank you again for sharing!

  • is your dog ok now

  • Not all dog coughs are kennel cough. My dog was coughing like that and was diagnosed with pneumonia due to blastomycosis. It can be fatal if not treated properly. It's imperative to take your pet to the vet. I had no idea he could have blasto, the results from my online search were leading to either kennel cough or canine influenza, which delayed my visit to the vet. Wanted to share my experience with other pet owners, get informed but don't rely solely on internet research.

  • Camilomaggot, its NOT a disease.

A dog that coughs could have Kennel Cough or in some cases, will have Heartworms.

If it is Heartworms then you need to start treating them asap, if it really is Kennel Cough then you'll just need an antibiotic for most cases.

  • i just took my 2 wetsies to the vets for kennel cough the gave me synulox to give them,

  • well good advice says that giving your dog a 1/2 teaspoon of non-alcoholic cough syrup is good and if he persist, take him to the vet.
