Krista Detor & Arbutus Cunningham - 'Icarus' - Live at the Waldron Arts Center during the CD release (and Benefit for the Nyaka AIDS Orphans) of 'Cover Their Eyes'
Lyrics:
Spent the night under the dogstar chasing my tail
All out of things to say - No one to tell anyway
And the ambulance sped down the road in search of a heart
Whose beating had stopped - A life interrupted
Statements were taken and solemnly filed in a drawer
I wish I had known, she said, that hed go off alone
And Icarus fell while no one was looking
We had places to go, and what could we do
He fell out of the sky, disappeared in the blue unending
Maybe its better there on the other side
I hope that it is, for my sake and for his
Its got to be greener, she said, when theyd left with their lights
All gone on their way - Nobody to save today
He should have known better than flying so close to the sun
The wings couldnt hold, but he never did what he was told
And Icarus fell while no one was looking
We had places to go, and what could we do
He fell out of the sky, disappeared in the blue forever
I could have saved him, I could have, just one minute more
Had I thought of it then, but you know how its been,
All this thinking I do lately takes all of my attention.
A minute has passed since the words dropped right off of the page
Nobody to catch them - May I live to at least forget him
So very special. Please do come to Georgia. I will be on the front row!

This is great, as WVSunbird said.
Having never heard it before I thought it was going to end before the word "sea"... with the "blue un-ending" unresolved on, what is that, the supertonic/dminished 7th?

This is a wonderful marriage of the art of spoken word and song. What a beautiful accomplishment.

Thank you so much for posting this...it is lovely to relive that beautiful moment in Bloomington last April when I had the awesome privilege of seeing and hearing this incredible live performance, and it still gives me chills. Krista's lyrics and vocals are stunning, as is Arbutus Cunningham's poignant reading beforehand. The whole of this: Dave Weber's vocals and guitar accompaniment; Steve Mascari's upright bass; Anne Hurley's hauntingly beautiful cello ~ create a simply stunning work!
