Here's an extremely rare clip of Herb's show "The Beat of the Brass" from the 1968 era. This is one of my favorites. Sorry for the yellowing, but it's better than nothing. Enjoy.

P.S. I had the once in a lifetime opportunity to see Herb and Lani play at Blues Alley in Georgetown Washington DC 12 May 2008. The show was absolutely spectacular. After all these years, they both still have it: the skills and the love. Truly a remarkable show. Herb and Lani, thanks to all of the wonderful years of warming our hearts with your great art work. You both are truly blessed as well as I was at your show.

  • Hands down one of the swiningest and coolest instrumentals ever!

  • Herb was the coolest- a stud. Slick. Dynamic. Way ahead of his time. He still stands the test of time. And married a hot, talented, sexy chick to boot- Lani Hall. They're still happily married- which shows you how grounded this talented man really is.

  • Is Hal Blaine doing this drumming or Nick ??

  • Great music and great video! ~ I especially enjoy the athletic events in it. Notice the high-jumper at 1:26 is still forward jumping over the bar, which ended with Dick Fosbury's "Fosbury Flop" he used to win the 1968 Olympic Gold Medal in the High Jump Event going over the bar backwards & lands on his shoulder. He is incorporating the landing (in sand at that), but has not mastered the approach to the bar in a "C" or "J" pattern to do a proper backwards over the bar roll to a shoulder land.

  • Ah, the xylophone. Where would 60's jazz be without you? :D

  • i heard he nailed that blonde toward the end of the video... right about 3:01 -- her name was louise gray and she was a hottie in her day. she is very old now, however.

  • @freepussy Take us all back to 1968!

  • he almost got nailed by that baseball at 2:07! And they cut it out! lol

  • I haven't heard this song in about 40 years! My folks used to listen to the TJB albums a lot, and this tune was one I remember digging as a six-year old. Thanks much for posting it.

  • Bet these kids had a lot of fun participating in this.

  • No,all of the music from that movie was made by Lalo Schifrin.
