The vets only work on commission 20% of each bill, sorry for your loss.

Thanks for posting this info. I had a cat who died at 12 years old who had similar symptoms. I kept taking him to the vet, many times but they never detected anything. He lasted a few months. My other cat luckily, never got the disease (I was forever cleaning that litter box) and went on to live15 years more. So sorry for your loss.

$4,500 WTF I love my cat too, but that money could have done so much good in your community. Obama is right, some people do have too much cash, and it should be re-distributed for the good of humans.

Haha. Your gay ass cats are DEAD!

It's just not true! I've always had cats and they are perfectly happy inside. I play with them and they have toys - and I always have at least two so they have each other. There are many reasons a cat should be kept inside - ANY veterinarian will tell you this. Keep 'em in! They aren't imprisoned - you are anthropomorphizing. I understand - I love cats and I anthropomorphize, too! But I never, ever, ever let them out. Not since my favorite one was killed - and the vet said STOP!

Shaleen, there are other illnesses your outside cat can pass on to you. Giardia is the LEAST of them (humans can easily be infected with it). And we must take responsibility for the environment. Cats can cause serious problems to local fauna.
I see dead cats on the side of the road all the time - so do you. It makes me sad! If we keep them inside at all times, they will never be run over... including backing out of the driveway and killing your own cat. Happened to my neighbor. Very sad.

Well, Shaleen, it all depends on how much you love your cats and how long you want them to live. Not trying to be harsh here, but that's the reality. Ask any veterinarian. I've had cats for decades and never, ever let them out - and all my cats come from the animal shelter. All have been accustomed to being outside but in my care, they are NEVER outside.
Cats can pick up H1N1 and the future therein is unknown. Furthermore, the bird/lizard/etc. population is decimated by cats.

@ShaleenGlasgow I didn't say pets couldn't be loved ones! LOL.

@DFDSFUEIFH Pets can be loved ones too lol i think lossing a pet is just as bad as a mom/dad/sibiling ect. lol mabey not as bad but you no :L
If your cat has foul smelling waste, and it's pasty, it is most likely giardia. The problem is, most veterinarians only give you ONE dose of Panicure, which DOES NOT cure it.
Tell your vet you need the following:
Panicure for 5 days
Metronidazole for 10 days
Clean their area well, and dump out the old litterbox waste, as it can reinfect them again. This will help your chances of it not recurring.
Some cats need a second dose of both medications to cure it.

What is worse, the girl I did this favor for told me all I wanted was MONEY!!! She didn't care, she didn't even call to see how the rest of my kids were doing. I spent over $5,000 in emergency room fees, and when I told her this, she sent me an e-mail saying all I was looking for was MONEY! She never said she was sorry for my loss, nothing. I met her through a business meeting. I learned that people are very cruel, and very selfish, especially that person. Not everyone is a good person :o(

Had the girl who got the kitten had it tested completely, and the store (PetSmart) tested all the animals it let this outside store adopt out, my boy and all of my other cats (I lost another one 5 months later due to an extension of the damage from the giardia), my kids would never have suffered like they did Christmas week. I learned my lesson. I will never babysit or bring another person's pet into my home as a kind favor again. It cost me my precious children.

Every cat became extremely dehydrated, and due to Tyrant's excessive vomiting, it ripped his peritoneum. For what I thought was bringing him to the ER for fluids and help for his diarrhea, was losing him because his lungs filled up with fluid and he was suffocating to death, all in less than 7 days.

part 2 .. giardia is NOT 'highly contagious', it's contagious, yes .. but not anymore than any other intestinal parasite. if you walk outside and your cat/dog licks your shoes, it can get giardia. i didn't mean to preach .. and i am truly sorry for your loss .. poor kitty. :(

Actually, Giarida is highly contagious. And I had 12 cats in my home at the time, and they were all VERY healthy (indoor only cats), and every single cat got the giardia when they used the same litterbox the kitten did. I spoke with three veterinarians, and they all stated it could have been detected with a simple fecal test. Tyrant had hyperthyroidism and he vomited 60 times in 2 days because of the giardia. They all had extremely foul smelling feces with blood in their diarrhea, all of them
