The City of Concord Fire and Life Safety Department held its ninth Patriot's Day Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at Fire Station 8. The annual ceremony was initiated in September 2002 to remember the heroes of September 11, 2001.

The event takes place at Station 8, which was the first fire station to open in Concord after September 11, 2001. The Station has a permanent monument and plaque in memory of those that were lost.

Even though the event's purpose is to remember and honor those who departed nine years ago, there are heroes that continue to sacrifice their lives while serving our country. Concord's own James Fleet McClamrock was killed in action Tuesday while serving with the U.S. Army in Iraq. The City is grateful for his sacrifice and offers its condolences to his family and loved ones.

Friday's ceremony featured a mixed-agency honor guard, bell-ringing, laying of a wreath at the Station 8 monument, and music from the Concord Fire Department Pipes and Drums. Battalion Captain Ed Shaver of the Department of Fire and Life Safety coordinated the event.
