The first of our new game development tutorial miniseries has arrived! We are hoping to continue releasing new tutorials on a weekly or biweekly basis. We hope to cover a wide array of programming, mathematics, physics, and engineering topics relevant to game development.

Today's topic is 2 dimensional vectors. I present the topic as a series of miniclips and attempt to explain each concept in terms of algebraic computation and geometric significance. I encourage my viewers to stop and rewatch any topic that eludes you the first time. These concepts are the foundation for more complex game development applications that will be the focus of future tutorials.

  • wft is this

  • @MrDead1994 It's called mathematics.

  • so essentially a vector is a just a point represented by a measurement on the x axis and a measurement on the y axis... right? I'm not sure if I'm right or not... I hope I am.

  • @Manifest222: Yeah, that's one interpretation. The other is a "distance" from a point to another or distance from the origin to a point (as you have said).

  • nice toilet paper. Is this for emergencies?

  • @its123baby: Real devvers just cannot be bothered with restroom breaks.

  • All of this made perfect sense but I'm 6 classes away from a B.S in mathematics so that's why.

  • @jrinkthedew

This relates to creating a 2D game it is a way of interpreting distance, speed, and line segments, which all exist within a 2D game. Also this may be used to rotate an image using the described trigonometry in the video at 6:43 . I hope this helps you.

  • Anything that I should already know before watching this? Because I fail to understand it and how it applies to creating a 2D game ;P

  • Never mind, I fully understand what you mean by the negative inverse of a slope.

  • @rahvn cmon, it is quite straitghforward

  • I'm glad I took a couple physics courses, since you do a lot of vector addition and subtraction in physics.

When you're talking about the inverse slope, is that negative m?

  • Is there a vid somewhere explaining this stuff for newbies? This vid is more of a (lightning fast) review for people who already know this stuff, and need a 'refresher'. ps. the sloppy writing on screen doesnt help!!

  • i think i just got mindfucked

  • Same, but this guys computer sucks.

  • i loled at this beacuse im 13 andi understand that LOLXD!
