The color of one's skin is as insignificant as the color of one's eyes. We don't discriminate against people of different colored eyes, now do we? Skin color just happens to be more noticable, so it's easier to use as a way to differentiate. Very silly, really. I don't think of Obama as a black or white man. I just see him as educated and an eloquent speaker who will be an excellent diplomat and decision maker.

i personally have never grasped the idea of racial identification to well.Obama seemed like a good high profile example to use to talk about the largely illusionary nature of our concepts of race.

It is available for rent at a neighborhood rental facility. National Geographic put it together. I think it might even be available here on YT, not sure. It is a wonderful learning tool for anyone who wants to understand how we can trace our ancestry using DNA markers. It's also all based on Dr. Wells peer-reviewd and published works on using our Genome to go back in time and follow our migration. 15 yrs of hard work in the lab and travelling around the world. Awesome!

I make it a point to show the 'Journey of Man' DVD, explaining the migration of humans around the globe by Dr. Spencer Wells. It is my little way of trying to erase any racist brain cells that my students might harbor in their young brains. Hope it works. I also ask them to take their new found knowledge home to discuss it with their parents just so that they may understand. Many of them don't want to hear about it or even discuss it because it contradicts their stupid fairytale beliefs.

i always seem to get those two mixed up for some reason.i am pleased to see scientific understanding of human origins providing the real answers to who we are.i hope someday they fully replace our cultural and religious ones,like say the mormon one for example.
