An important message here is that patients can have more than one parathyroid tumor and they should insist that their surgeon look at all four parathyroid glands during parathyroid surgery. Removing one parathyroid tumor and not checking the other glands is not good care and has a much lower cure rate. I can not tell you how dramatically this surgery improved my life! My endocrinologist told me that my high calcium levels were due to low vit D.
