@TheVaughan5 If you want to get technical about my grammar, then maybe you should consider attempting to be more technically correct when you derscribe Schonwandt's conducting. If his bouncing around bothers you then how do you feel about Dudamel who virtually leaves his feet. Yes, you are right that most of the work is done beforehand. The orchestra plays brilliantly, which would suggest Schonwandt has done his homework. If you saw him in person, I am sure your opinion would be different.

@cookie2000ify If you bother to read my comments without such prejudice you will note that I did not criticise his performance, it was his conducting techique that I was on about when on the podium. As you may or may not know most of the conductor's work is done before the performance and as I said, some are interesting to watch others not, and he is my opinion which I am entitled to, one of the latter. And by the way the word is perfectly.

@TheVaughan5 You obviously don't know a good conductor when you hear one or see one. It so happens that
Michael Schonwandt is held in the highest esteem by the Danes who should know what this music should sound like. He has the orchestra performing the Fourth like no other conductor could. His technique suits this great symphony absolutely perfect.

Michael Schonwandt has been studying the music of Nielsen his entire life. He knows this music backwards and forward and is the best interpreter of all the Nielsen symphonies. Add to this the Danish National SO-this music is in their blood-and you have the most magnificent performance of the Fourth. Obviously this comes from the decapo DVD which comes highly recommended.

Carl Nielsen is Denmarks greatest composer.

I agree about the Martinon recording. Equally great, though is the HMV by Launy Grondahl, which was recently available on CD and can occasionally be found used.

Some conductors have a great technique and are interesting to watch,, this guy unfortunately is not one of them he has what I call a "dancing" technique which doesn't suit the music at all but nevertheless it's a good performance of a great work
