Sounds like they're describing Japan.

@bluerisk It wasn't as much the warrior society that destroyed sparta, it worked fine (although implying it on new conquered lands did fail) it was there stubornness to never retreat, even when retreat was the most sound tactical move to do. This destroyed there once great armies , which in terms destroyed there ability to keep there serves under supression. And considering alot of greek states adepted the agoga, one can hardly argue that sparta couldn't excist long when others adept your ways.

@mrtrek64 Klingons seem to represent Vikings/barbarians to me. I do agree with you on the Romulans representing Ancient Rome. That's why they and the Klingons hate each other, it paralells how Barbarians and Romans felt about each other.
The Federation represents the United States, the Ferengi represent crooked capitalists and the Cardassians represent the Chinese (both love order and oppress religious peoples).

Klingons Rulles!

Apparantly you never saw TOS, where they weren't above terrorizing innocent star bases, and starting brawls in bars just because they could.

If a Klingon doesn't fight, he doesnt not BWREEE

i tend to agree, unfortuantelly this was some sort of production-decision made during the TNG timeline! before that klingons were always more like samurai ... honor, duty & tradition were important, but not the only thing in their life, like in all societies, and sometime at the end of TNG / beginning of DS9 they redesigned them into this mindless "all-about-war-&-death" race, which as you pointed out is unsustainable :( i liked my klingons th way they were like in ST1/3/6
I loved this game.

I love their "Bird of Prey"-vessels, but as race they're actually to stupid to exist.
Just like these Hirogens.
You can't exist as warrior society => Sparta.
(And the Spartans could only exist - for a limited time - because of their serfs)
