Here is a continuation of the other WW&F Plow Extra video, at the same location with the steam engine and diesel engine. Please note the loud stack talk on the steam engine, and the wheel slips. It took an hour and a half to plow out the entire 2.2 mile railroad.

  • Sweet Vid. aha thats funny the train had to back up an take a run at it :P piece of cake with speed.

  • Thanks. The rails were ice covered, and didn't give us much traction. The snow averaged about a foot deep.

  • Steam is still KING! Great Video.

  • Yes, it is truely amazing how the steam engine sounds like it is doing all the work. In the first video, it is hard to hear the diesel over the sound of the steam engine. Talk to you later.

  • Absolutely!!!!! Steam ALWAYS comes to the rescue of the diesel in distress!!!!!! lol, they may take a lot to maintain, but if taken care of the right way, they can be a BLESSING!!!!

  • maybe what this railroad needs is a flatcar mounted wedge snowplow =)

  • I am surprised that no railroads in Maine had any steam rotary snow plows. All they had were V plows, like what's used today. I have seen pictures of the 2' gauge railroads in Maine, not this particular railroad, but they all dealt with the same thing, massive amounts of snow, and one year, the railroads had snow banks next to the railroad tracks, that were over 8' tall.

  • Yeah, but back then the way to go was the Steam Rotaries!!!! They could clear ANY snow!!!!

  • Thanks. It sure was fun, but very stressfull on the steam crew all day, both plowing snow, and trying to keep steam pressure up while pulling the passenger trains. Please be sure to watch the video I posted when the steam engine couldn't make it up Davis Grade, half mile from the station, so we had to call for a diesel assistant.

  • Love the sound of that steam engine. Pretty cool to still see them working.
