  • Sure, I understand. And I think I agree 100% with what you said.

    My comment was without context and, looking back, probably irrelevant.

  • True about using shanties as source material. However, when people who know nothing about shanties ask about the songs -- a bit of history on shanties helps. (Especially when the hurdy-gurdy needs tuning.)

    We NEVER try to pass off our versions as historically accurate. Although -- if you want to be picky about it -- as soon as a shanty is sung on a stage for pleasure or entertainment instead of a deck for working, it is no longer 'authentic'. After that, it's all just a matter of degrees.

  • These two are really talented.

    For what its worth tho, the spiel at the beginning is really not relevant to what they are doing. They are using a shanty as *source* material to create their own type of music, not singing something like work songs Pint describes at the beginning. it is a bit misleading
