Sure, I understand. And I think I agree 100% with what you said.
My comment was without context and, looking back, probably irrelevant.

True about using shanties as source material. However, when people who know nothing about shanties ask about the songs -- a bit of history on shanties helps. (Especially when the hurdy-gurdy needs tuning.)
We NEVER try to pass off our versions as historically accurate. Although -- if you want to be picky about it -- as soon as a shanty is sung on a stage for pleasure or entertainment instead of a deck for working, it is no longer 'authentic'. After that, it's all just a matter of degrees.

These two are really talented.
For what its worth tho, the spiel at the beginning is really not relevant to what they are doing. They are using a shanty as *source* material to create their own type of music, not singing something like work songs Pint describes at the beginning. it is a bit misleading
