Completion of an official survival training class is a legal requirement to travel offshore in a helicopter for work in many areas - generally in areas where exposure/hypothermia would be leathal in a matter of a few minutes due to cold water temperatures. Many employers also separately require completion/certification from such a class for helicopter travel in parts of the world where it is not goverment sanctioned.
