A red light that, at times, doesn't want to change.

  • Good report. Man, they are pretty quick with the green arrow. Maybe it has a sensor and a car has to be there?

  • UPDATE: An engineer from the GDOT called me. He stated that the loop detectors were working properly. He then stated that he saw my video and made some minor adjustments, adding time to the dual left turns lanes and the minor (side) street.

  • Hey, I love it when someone actually listens. I had a stop sign direction changed here after I brought it to their attention. Good work.

  • Yeah, I contact the local public works/DOTs often, to get changes in the appearance of signs, signals, etc.

    And, thanks.

  • Yeah, a lot of driver education would be necessary.

  • Yes, I suppose it'd take a lot of driver education until everyone is used to it. The rule here is that you give way to anyone already on the roundabout. And if there's a space, you go for it, if you can do so without causing another driver to slow down. It means every junction is like a left turn (here) — or a right turn in the US. And of course there's no danger of sailing through an intersection against a red light.

  • Just saw the video that you recommended, David. I think that a roundabout could work here, but most people (Americans), I think, would be confused, as roundabouts aren't seen too often over here (in the States).

The other day, I drove through a roundabout in a neighborhood. This SUV had part of their vehicle into the circle without having yielded the right-of-way (giving way) to the car ahead of me. The person in front of me was already in the roundabout.

  • It looks as though traffic light technology has hardly moved on in the last half century. Think of all the wasted fuel and time. Would this junction be better as a roundabout? Please see LifeJourneyGuide's video "It's all about England Roundabouts".

  • Additionally, there should be the cameras that alert the light to change (there are some in other portions of Metro Atlanta). This is more effective, because the sensors can be damaged easily.

  • Well, there are cuts in the ground where the sensor is supposed to be; however, it takes forever to change, then only a limited amount of time is given to turn (as evidenced in this video). Most traffic turns either to my right (toward the Atlanta Aiport/I-85) or to my left (for I-285).
