The Heritage Film Foundation Presents Rabbi Tuffs by Edward Montes-Bradley. Jewish immigrants who mostly came from Czarist Russia, Romania, Austria and Poland were assisted by the Baron de Hirsch Institute and the Jewish Colonization Association. These colonists were motivated by a keen desire to escape religious persecution and racial discrimination, with the rights to own and farm their land and freely adhere to their orthodox faith.

  • I think the amount of land offered was 1/4 section (160 acres). That is what was normally considered a homestead. Maybe it was different in that situation. 10 acres would be much use in Saskatchewan. Interesting vid.

  • Sorry, I made an error. I meant to say that 10 acres WOULD NOT be much use.

  • Very interesting video, thankyou. We do need each other!

  • I am a Jew from Saskatchewan. I now live in Toronto area. I run a horse farm and no one even knows what a Kitbutz is! Oy Vey!

  • Thanks for sharing this video. The Jewish community in Saskatchewan is relatively small, and it is nice to hear a bit of history from here.

  • Absolutely interesting!
