Byberry actually officially closed in June of 1990. On December 7th, 1987 is when it was announced it would be closed. This announcement followed the murder of a female patient who was murdered by a psychiatric patient Charles Gable. Gable, who was never found, dismembered her body which was found spread throughout the property. Another patient was found playing with the victims teeth. Remaining patients and staff were transferred to Norristown State Hospital or local community centers.

We had one of those decrepit Beta Max units at our High School right when VHS took over as the Main format for video. Just like this video, Ours had no sound either.
