Some 50 people turned up for a candlelight vigil that was held last night in memory of the late Aleesha Farhana.

Aleesha was a male-to-female transsexual who recently applied to change her name and gender on her MyKad and identity documents at the Kuala Terengganu High Court. However, her application was rejected by Judge Datuk Mohd Yazid Mustafa. It was reported that Aleesha was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu on the night of July 29th after experiencing heart problems and low blood pressure. She was also said to have been suffering from depression due to the rejection of her application and the harsh criticism she faced from certain sects of Malaysian society. She passed away yesterday at 5.00am.

Many thanks to Ivan Yap for permission to use the title picture.

  • @MEORISZWAN I'm sure Islam does not propagate hate. Instead, it promotes respect and tolerance... which is something a lot of people lack.

  • we need more compassion, more empathy, thanks for sharing this video

  • imagine a world with no religion

  • This was a really heart-warming video. I am sad to say that I've only come across this now, but I am glad to had seen it nonetheless. It really gave me hope for this country, We do have liberal, open-minded people here in our beautiful country after all.

  • @restek36 owh, so it is about religion? who are you to judge people faith? we are not God, we are not Prophets, we are all sinners.. and no one understand the late Aleesha better that she herself and God.. Public dont have any rights to stop her from what she is doing.. Please don't make assumptions just because you think she is diiferent.. go search what MUKHANNATHUN in wikipedia, and people like her, deserve to choose to be a lady or a man...

  • All creatures and beings are created by Allah for a reason.

Who dares to question Allah rights and motives for creating someone 'special' or indifferent like her???

Why do you think you have the rights and facts to question and criticize Allah's creation???

Or u in another way challenging and disrecpect Allah yourself? You challenged and disrespect Allah when you act and speak brutally towards his beloved creations.

  • Did Nisha Ayub even read the honorable court's grounds of judgment before making such a remark? I am pretty sure she did not, because if she had done so, she would have understood the real issue in the case. It is not about discrimination, but rather purely procedural. Ashraf's application was dismissed because he did not tender any confirmation from the surgeon that performed the surgery. Without such confirmation, the court is not equipped with sufficient evidence to allow the application.

  • This is not the matter of religion, stop imposting ur belief to others.why iran, egypt, arab, pakistan can accept transexual? Malaysia n arab is the same mahzab.but why is different? Hmmm i wonder why?why is the law in the syahriah law in malaysia is not standartdise? Hmmm i wonder why? So please dont get mix up with religion n gender.alessha wil just have to answer to god not to human beings. Who are u guys to judge her?may her soul rest in peace.

  • @aliciaa90099 Azhar048 said that all religions do not allow transsexualism, but you seems to suggest that there are religion that allow transsexualism, that's y I'm asking u. Or is it religion silent on this issue?

  • back 2 basic..its all there..
