Surf casting in New Zealand..Pines beach smoothhound

How far do you have to wade out to get your line beyond the breakers? fished amberley beach once but couldnt cast beyond the breakers so havnt botherd fishing the shallow beaches north of Christchurch recently, But after watching this video im tempted to give it another go.

@Rainbowtrout150 On this particular day I could wade right out to the open sea, must have been a really low tide or something, have never been able to do that again.. best bet is to fish at night when the fish come in close, you dont need to cast past the breakers then!!

I've been trying my luck out by the Sailing club on the other side, I think it's called McIntoshes rocks any suggestions for rigs or bait?

@wyveryn2004 I'd forget fishing inside the rivermouth mate, head down the beach and cast beyond the breakers using crab ,prawn or shellfish baits on a ledger rig!!

what sort of trace setup were you using sinkers etc

@laiman1 6oz breakout sinker on the bottom of a ledger rig..two droppers and 5/0 recurves..trace tied out of 60lb black magic supple
