Takes you through a look at a V8 General Motors Holden 308ci engine block before final acid clean and wash. The block has been bored .060 and honed, trial assembled, pistons all measured at TDC (top dead centre),and all bearings clearanced checked, then stripped for final time. The block is then decked to new spec, all bolt holes retapped, block is deburred and areas polished

  • I'd exercise caution is cleaning up the inside of the block and the castings too much simply because if the oil drains back to the sump too fast it doesn't give up as much heat to the cooling jacket as it should resulting in higher oil temps.

I understand why you clean so the Oil drains back faster and I do the same thing with the casting flash and rounding off sharp corners lessening the risk of a crack coming away from them.

Whats wrong with engine Porn :P

  • @mozzmann For sure mozza spot on,I don't believe on spending hours polishing insides of blocks, only once on a special sbc cause I wanted too,but in my years, some of the castings that come from the factory are well!! Not in front of the kids.Pathetic, cylinder heads especially,308s can only drain top end oil thru back of block, oil returned over cam has get past that, then is sucked into the violent windage world of the crankcase,a mass of oil sucked, blown, around the crank like a oilmass tornado lol

  • love the ending, ''making porn vids again'' lol

  • @60inchwilly yeah gotta luv ya mates, always there when you need them, and full of support, that was a lazy Sat arvo session, could finally get some serious work done and take a bit of vid and, theres a clown in every circus around here, and he wanted a beer, and of course he was rewarded for the porn comment,paid...But I dont get mad,I dont get even,I win..in time lol

  • @Aussieheads1 Oh I hear you, some factory castings are full of joint flash and porous holes.

Last 308 I rebuilt I actually bored a couple of holes through the water jacket and put a tube through it to help drain oil back under the windage tray, Lots of builder's run external tubes down from the rocker cover's too, Just another place to leak in my book but hey if it works for you 'eh. I put ears on the Pan to hold 3 Litres of extra Oil.
