@gtlip Yep, it's Sicily. You can see Manchester Road at the leading edge of the DZ, the orange clay flight landing strip (where the C-130 LAPES crashed back in '88), and the bleachers to the left.

Not much has changed from the 43 years ago when I first jumped from a C-119 (flying cigars). Later the C-130. Very cool to see it again. Brings back memories.

Its a static line it deploys your chute for you. Because of the low altitude it has to be static line because your so close to the ground if you had to pull your own ripcord it wouldn't fully deploy your chute.

The yellow rope is the universal static line. It is attached to an anchor line in the plane and to the parachute. When u jump out, it deploys your parachute for u
