@LearningToFly1000 Because they can make signs and gestures before they have the ability to say words. This makes life so much easier when you can understand what they want. Plus sign language is the 4th most used language in North America so why not :)

@LearningToFly1000 Thank you :) I started teaching her because it was a great way for her to communicate her needs to us before she could talk. Now I am teaching her (5 years old now) because it's a great second language for her to have :)

How long did it take for her to learn the alphabet and the other words? This is a recent phenomenon as it was unheard of when i was growing up. Now i see hundreds of babies on youtube signing. New evolutionary milestone.

@MrMcshane70 I guess it took a few months. We were just signing and singing the alphabet and she started to pick it up. It's a fun game for her!
