WHAT'S ON YOUR PLATE is a witty and provocative documentary and outreach campaign produced and directed by award-winning Catherine Gund about kids and food politics. Filmed over the course of one year, the film follows two eleven-year-old African-American city kids as they explore their place in the food chain. Sadie and Safiyah take a close look at food systems in New York City and its surrounding areas. With the camera as their companion, the girl guides talk to each other, food activists, farmers, new friends, storekeepers, their families, and the viewer, in their quest to understand what's on all of our plates. Aubin Pictures seeks alliances with parents, teachers, food activists, policy makers, journalists, corporations, scientists, and, most importantly, kids to spread the message about the importance of local, healthy food in a young person's life.

  • If the kids stop eating all that junk thats around these days, the american food corporations would have no choice but to follow the money, just be careful monsanto doesn't modify all the seeds by then.

    All the Best.

  • @davehutchinson67 totally....

  • @itsabird Wouldn't that just be a perfect world. God..I think about it..I"m 44 and can remember all of it...and it's shocking, enlightening, sad, heartbreaking and electrifying all at the same time. If I had only known 20 years ago. How many of those we loved would still be here? How many more will be if we can change just one person at a time. "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has" Margaret Mead

  • @detevtive66 I don't know how you get that? With all the truth about what's in food, the Monsanto debacle over seeds, genetically modified food, alternative therapy suppression, the sodium flouride scam, I mean..there is plenty more so how you see these two kids doing something positive as "gay" or ultra left is simply out of focus for you. Pay attention. It's the most expensive thing you will ever pay.

  • @kyly9kelkool it is...and those two are adorable....so interesting watching them on their voyage of discovery...life is journey, not a destination...

  • I just watched it on netflix.... awesome! Absolutely awesome. :)

  • awesome!

  • LOVED this film!!!

  • grow a tomato - taste it! there is more to the equation than calories...

  • Many "health gurus" make it seem as if the only two types of food are shelf stable, overly-processed, toxin laden foods and the locally grown organic foods. There is plenty of grey area between the extremes. @ 1:24, she kind of shrugged at "thiamine mononitrate" which is vitamin B1. It doesn't matter what its source is, the molecule is the same. The body "sees" foods in their chemical forms, not broccoli or pizza or soda or spring water. Focus on the toxins and not the source of the nutrients.

  • I love that the two girls in the flim were fencers. Also it's time that people of color and folks in general ask'whats in our food and why is it killing us"
