Our new video connects the glory of the Gospel (i.e., the treasure that Jesus is) with the current global orphan crisis. http://www.togetherforadoption.org/
Many thanks to Brannon McAllister for his work on this video! http://www.brannonmcallister.com/
The song used is Steven Curtis Chapman's "Treasure of Jesus." Show Hope (founded by Steven Curtis Chapman and his wife, Mary Beth) is one of our Conference 2009 sponsors: http://www.showhope.org/
Desiring God (http://www.desiringgod.org/) sent a cameraman with us to Ethiopia to capture this footage. Many thanks to DG!
Probably the best verse to fill in our understanding of what "visiting orphans in their affliction" involves is found in the Old Testament. The Greek translation of Exodus 4:31 uses the same Greek words for "visit" and "affliction" that James uses for those two words.
"And the people believed; and when they heard that the LORD had visited the people of Israel and that he had seen their affliction, they bowed their heads and worshipped."

The word for "visit" in James 1:27 means "to look after, care for." It is not optional for individuals in the church to care for orphans and widows. Individually, not just corporately.
