My grandmother who was a modest farmer woman in the Swiss mountains had this record on an old 78er disk. I loved this melancholic melody unbelievelably, although I understood not one single word. Thank you very much.

I think this song was from the late 1940s - '46 or '48 or thereabouts - and not from the 50s. One of my favorites when I was younger.

Thank you so much for posting this. I remember my grandfather loved this song. It reminds me of him. This song was popular when he was a seaman in his younger days and visited America often.
THANKS!!! My love recently recalled this song to me as being sung to her when she was a little girl ... she knew only a few of the lyrics, but enough for me to find the song's name ... HOW GLAD I AM TO FIND ITS BEING PLAYED HERE ON YOUTUBE, and you're the only ones doing it ... THANK YOU ... I will surely surprise her when I let her hear you doing this song ... it is sure to bring back memories of her childhood.
