Each year on the last Sunday of July, Roy Sakuma's Annual Ukulele Festival fills the warm, clear Honolulu air with music. The festival is in its third decade and still free.
Sakuma's students of all ages share the day with well-known ukulele artists, and it's a memorable day for all. While working in TV news, I always encouraged the station to do extra stories in support of this worthwhile endeavor. This lead up story aired several days before, and we ran an additional story on festival day.
