  • This is Bernard at his best and maddest. This was the USA tour that went tits up. You can sense the tension between him and Brett in the way Bernard is stomping like a loony and gurning at the camera in his best 'go away I'm mad y'know' sort of way.

    Classic classic classic.

Whoever put this on, you're a genius.

  • That's not a cute sideways look, that's mad bernard being mad- at this precise point in history he was a bit unhinged... he's doing his troubled genius look- which he uses often..

  • Anyway, This was an awesome live performance, Bernard here played extremely well with an heavely rock sound. i really fucking love the first Suede! they were sensual and powerly! ..

I have a important question for the Suede fans .. COULD SOMEONE TELL ME WHICH SOUND EFFECTS USED BERNARD BUTLER IN THE FIRST SUEDE PERIOD?!

thanks by a Italian fun! Sergio

  • @Rubyverbena thanks for sharing. that was an amazing read.

  • WELL worth suffering the few seconds of Jay Leno's intro & the outro. Bernard was the fucking man. Fucking explosive. Threatening. Brilliant.

  • i recently found a blog entry written by someone who was in the audience for this show. i can't paste the link here but it can be found by googling "jamie s. rich" and "now you're over twenty one".

i think the author does a good job explaining just how very important this band is to people here in the u.s as well.

  • BERNARD IS TOO SICK IN THIS!!!

  • @turricaned To be honest it was Coming Up that got me into guitar and it's only later that I appreciated Butler. Richard Oakes definetely has his own style. He's good at playing Richard Oakes songs and apparently doesn't enjoy playing songs he didn't write. As a guitarist I definetly find Oakes songs more technically difficult than Butler songs. Butler had more style and attitude and his live sound was epic, that's why people love him.

  • Great shot at 1:14. This band could have, should have been so huge. Bernard Butler was such a great fucking guitar player.

  • it was performed live - in an excellant way, despite the big show on stage.

Good times, Butler was my guitar and haircut hero!

  • @meadish - Re: guitarist - not true. I think Richard always acquitted himself very well, especially so bearing in mind he was only 17 at the time he joined. His only limitation was that he felt obliged to crank out "Suede-by-numbers" and so never really got to develop his own style. The problem was, after "Coming Up", Brett got himself so mired in drugs that he ran out of ideas - he admits as much himself in the book.

  • @krancioch - To be fair to Bernard, he was a couple of years younger than the rest of them and while they were on this tour his Dad was succumbing to cancer back in the UK - if anyone had a right to be more fragile than usual at this point it was Bernard. Brett himself said that with hindsight the rest of the band weren't as sensitive to the situation as they should have been...
