The amazing winning performance of David Rudder's 'The Hammer' from 1986, arranged by the great Leon 'Smooth' Edwards. Amazing fact - All Stars placed 11th in the preliminaries, but had crept up to 2nd position by the semi finals that year; only the die hard supporters felt they could catch a certain band that was in 'Phase' at the time. The last 90 seconds of the arrangement were learnt in just 1 night. Trust Smooth and All Stars to put just the right finishing touches to blow the minds of judges and audience alike! 293 out of 300 - the highest total ever obtained by any steelband in a Panorama!

  • truly one of the great moments in panorama and one of the best pan songs ever!

  • oh what a night after dancing and prancing while phase 11 was playing ,by the stage in front the north stand, i stood and listened while all styars played and i knew it was a winning piece ,its a classic that can be played in classical style for pan festival. it so damm good

  • @Joncumber I was in Trinidad for Carnival '86 and was amazed how All-Stars came from nowhere to win. Phase II was unstoppable in the semis, but tripped ever so slightly in the finals, letting All-Stars win. It was my first and only Carnival, but thank God YouTube has brought me back, and I break out into chills all over again.

  • @Joncumber

I totally agree with you. I was also there that night and even though I was a Phase 11 fan, I had to conceed after the All Stars performance. As a Barbadian living away from the Caribbean in the mid-west USA, this pan music is trully healing for the soul bringing back many memories of the North Stand. Thanks to the person who post these videos. Caribbean peoples don't know the richness and importance of this type of cultural expression. Seeing Clive Bradley with Despers is a memor

  • @trini4611 Ah feel yuh, I've been there myself...

  • @shpeetlah Perhaps not. But all the sins of the people that made this might well be forgiven...

  • I first saw this video in a world music class ten years ago, and I hadn't been able to remember what the festival was called. Thanks for the post, and remember that if humanity can create this it has the ability to solve all problems.

  • In 50 years of listening to pan music, this is the only piece of pan-music that can and does bring a tear to my eye, literally a rush of emotion.

    (E-Motion, ... energy in motion)

  • 8:41 onwards...ohh gaaaaaadddd..hold uh head, an bawl!!!
