  • I believe Citation was the last major horse to win in a walkover; no-one would run against him. His two year old year will never be duplicated. Secretariat got the glory, but Citation was right there

  • @DennyDee123 I know for sure Spectacular Bid won the Woodward (79 or 80) in a Walk Over

  • He won the triple crown. He will always be considered one of the greatest 3 yr olds. But to say he belongs as one of the greatest of all times I don't see it check out his record after he was 3 not same horse. He was injured and never was the same horse. He was beaten by Noor 4 times , count it 4 times. I don't think that qualifies him as one of the best of all times. As a 3 year old I would put him up there with big red.

  • woah woah woah...

Let's compare him with MOW and Secretariat.

To do that, you have to compare up to his 3 y/o year, which was one of the greatest seasons of all time.

BEFORE the Derby he already beat older horses. He thrashed times, and dominated his division.

I will easily say he is in the top 5 of greatest of all time

  • Perfectly done with this music, what is it.. and those last pics of Citation, wonderful. The 25 yr drought and Secretariat doing what he did as 1st of media age overshadows Cy's accomplishments, but not because noone cares. Many just don't know. Maybe we can change on this site. Good job Carly!

  • Man Theme from Eragon.

  • This is a wonderful tribute to Cy showing his poetry in motion when he soared above the ground to win the Triple Crown. The music is perfect.

  • CITATION WAS RATED NUMBER THREE OF ALL TIME ON THE BEST 100 EVER, THAT IN ITSELF SPEAKS HOW GREAT HE WAS. RIP CHAMP..................

  • @Duckworth17 Citation could only catch Secretariat in the Belmont, Derby or the Preakness only in someone's dream. It is well documented that Eddie Arcaro that rode Citation said Secretariat was the fastest & best he ever seen. How in this world could anyone argue with him?? Its just a no brainer.

  • Carly; I stand corrected; didnt check my facts. Thank you for calling me on it. It was 1980.

  • 27 of 29 his first two years; come-on, the last five Derby winners probabl havent run 29 times

  • Kind of interesting isn't it... Man O' war was very much in the hotrod example - of a big FIRE breathing dragster. Running on nitromethane. ..Yet experts (Fitzsimmons) who'd seen him and Citation - thought more highly of Citation. Something's not adding up.....right ? ..Realizing Citation was a '409' who would have been outclassed up against the Hemi. ...hmmmm

  • Citation likened to a '409'.... that impression is based on the lack of track records....right ? Ane he doesn't appear nearly as impressive in any of his films. Man O' war looks POWERFUL and MUCH faster (race w Sir Barton) than Citation in any of his film. Yet the Fitzsimmons' considered him the faster racehorse. Especially when he was selected 'above' a hemi breathing 500 cu in monster...MOW.
