  • correct me if I'm wrong but the gel itself doesn't light up like the video says. I know i'm splitting hairs but all your doing is changing the refractive index to bend light, that is the computer monitor light, so that the polarizing lens detects it. Right?

  • @ShipMonster exactly, it's the light coming from the backlit LCD that is blocked from the camera by the polarizing filter. "When ... a force is applied to the gel, its polarizing properties change, so light passes through the polarizing filter."
