Here is a picture of my Marleaux bass! Check it out! http://twitpic.com/7miyj9

The Marleaux costs £1,195 which is quite a lot of money. It's actually almost twice as much as I spent on my car... But when you hear it, or if we ever meet and you have a go on it, you'll understand why. It was hand crafted in Germany by the small company owned/ran by Gerald Marleaux (who reeeally knows what he's doing!!). It's so beautifully balanced, and it's quite light, but it has one of the nicest tones I've ever heard in a bass before!! I've played it stood up, and like I said it's just so well balanced. A lot of basses either feel heavy at the bottom end (Musicman basses feel like this sometimes) and some are more top-heavy (my Spector was a little top-heavy for examle). But the Marleaux is insane! It just sits there and.. argh. It's just amazing. I can't wait to show it to you in a video!!

So, I sold my Spector in part-exchange, and put a little on top of that so I've taken a pretty big chunk off the price already. I should be able to finish paying for it in about 2-3 months, and I can't wait.

So what about you? What are you saving up for? :)

  • I'm thinking about saving up for a fretless bass. I've always kinda wanted one. What kind of job did you get? I work in a factory myself.

  • @DarrenLikesDanger I work in a tiny local grocery store! It's awesome. Plus, a fretless? Sweeeeet! :)

  • I'm saving money for a Warwick AMP :D

  • @lugashaurein Awesome! I never thought about getting a new amp yet.. argh.. Maybe I'll save up for a Markbass amp after I've got the other things I want! ^___^

  • Hate to admit, but I seem to be sharing the goal of a stereotypical bassist; I'm saving for a JetGlo Rickenbacker 4003. If my calculations are correct it'll take me about 25 gigs to afford it, but it's my birthday next monday so let's hope!

  • I'm just saving up to get my bass set up properly, £40 for a full setup in the shop near me, so just gotta save up now!

  • I'm saving up for a Harbringer HA60-80 pa package, has enough inputs for two mics n two 1/4 inches :D perfect for a my soon to be small 3-piece

  • Don't sell the Spector!! I've wrestled with the idea of selling my basses before only to decide I'd rather keep all of them because of the sentimental value if nothing else. Plus you could always modify it to a fretless or find some other creative way of making it different/useful. Oh and after acquiring a Fender Jazz I've now started saving for an upgraded Spector: Spector Euro 4 LX-4 string

  • Saving up for my first 5 string! :D So I don't have to keep down tuning my fretless to B. (It's me, LAPHAM!) ;)

  • I am saving up for a Nicki Sixx Epiphone Blackbird :D

  • @BedroomBassist Thanks Nick!!! :D

  • Im saving up for a 1971 camaro rs and tradeing my drum set for it. So a loss for a big gain. Im not sure what it is in pounds but its $8.000 usd

  • @Rick951 I feel that way about my Yamaha, but not my Spector.. which is why I'm gonna be selling my Spector. :( However! When I first played the Marleaux I thought it was amazing, but then I found out it wasn't the "best" one they had in the shop.. I played the other ones, but I always loved the first one more! It's strange really. I just preferred the feel of the one that isn't as "good". I don't even know what was different about them but yeah! Ps. Your guitar sounds cool!!

  • @BedroomBassist It is nice to have an instrument that feels not like an instrument, but more like an extension of yourself. I hope the Marleaux is that for you.

There are plenty of other guitars I would love to have, just to have (a mid-90s PRS Dragon for example). But I got pretty lucky with my Les Paul (it was my second electric guitar ever), and now that it is autographed by Zakk Wylde and has EMGs in it, it is like family. :D
