The only time Ruffian had a chance to run 1 1/2 mi was in the 3rd leg of her Triple Crown which Jacinto had to hold her all the way to save her for the Match Race, I can guarentee you if Sec would have had a match race right after the Belmont there would have been no way that he would have put out that amazing performance, and he wouldn't have set 2:24 either. But anyways I'm done bickering

Actually Lucien's quote was AFTER Secretariat was done racing (in 1974 when Ruffian started racing), this was after the Triple Crown, and his great achievements. Lucien saw that Ruffian had beat his times, and that shee was the faster horse...thus his statement that she was a faster horse. (both Sec and Ruffian ran 6 furlongs on Saratoga, she had the faster time...under a hold)

Ruffian died in July 1975 as a 3 year old.

I love her. my english teacher saw her break down and she said that it was the worst thing she's ever seen. RIP Ruffian!

When I did research. Most sites told me Ruffian was raced from 1910-1918, if that isn't correct and you know the correct dates. Please let me know. Thank you
