Hi there, I wouldn't say the whole town, but indeed it would be powerful with an accompanied IR torch directional beam or IR omni spread lamp.

@ElectroFlip right.. so let's say i buy this and buy a surefire infered torch, that will surely enchance this baby right? i should be able to see the whole town if i had a powerful enough night vision torch.. what do you think?

@narcissusdark Hello, in pitch black about 10 feet. If there are street lamps around on the street it would work much further 30 feet would be a good estimate with street lighting or other surrounding lighting.
