Original song about the Iraq War by Innis Mack. The song tells the story of a wounded Iraq veteran.
Lyrics: Road to Babylon I was a young man Out of Abilene Looking for some action So I joined the 1st Marine They taught me how to love my M16 I was on my way to Babylon I was there the night The bombs began to fall That's what the government They called it Shock and Awe The night sky lit up Across that desert land And I was a soldier On the Road to Babylon I heard a voice It was the desert cry We tried to tell her We were good Americans But when the sun went down The spoilers came The broken pieces, dust and blood On the road to Babylon She was confounded. No balm for her pain The tears and the sorrow So much Violence Done Princes flee the palaces With their guns for hire. In the shadow of the temple You could hear the lions roar We were there when Baghdad fell When we broke Saddam's spell To put an end to Tyranny One cool morning out on patrol Riding in a Humvee Hunting Fedayeen My bow was broken When the ambush came The crack of fire The ribbon of smoke It fell between my knees When the doctor told me I'd never walk again. I drank the bitter wine From the cup of Babylon Break Now I roll down the halls At Walter Reed Staring at young faces Burned and blind At night I hear the cries And the old fears rise again Can't take back the life that's stripped away Oh sweet slumber Let me dream of when.... I held my mistress in my arms I see her face Her tears coming streaming down Its not losing the legs that gets me Its seeing my woman cry Then she whispers Its not the legs made me a man You paid the price of freedom On the road to Babylon Copyright 2007. So beautiful, thank you! Your voice is one of the best I've ever heard. Great, great, great song. I hope everyone prays every day for the hurt veterans, for their loved ones, and for those not wounded yet who will be. PRAY. It's something you CAN do for them.
