The Wright brothers and sister were geniuses who not only invented the first airplane, but also the world's first piloted glider, largest glider, wind tunnel, first successful, powered and piloted flight, first fatal air crash, first airplane sold to the government, first airplane to cross the US, first airplane with a machine gun, aviation, aeronautics.

They were Wilbur, Orville, and Katharine Wright.

They were Dayton Ohio bicycle mechanics, who decided to invent flight. They began from almost nothing and invented aviation. They show the spectacular ability of the human intellect and should be considered among the world's greatest geniuses among Newton and Einstein.

Their invention evolved into aviation, aeronautics, rockets, submarines, and spaceflight. The aerospace business is the world's largest industry. They changed the way people think - now in 3 dimensions, rather than 2.

Video shows the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base museum, the Air and Space Center, on the site where the Wrights developed flight.

  • @cruddiestcrudever the true inventor of the airplane, is the Brazilian "Alberto Santos Dumont" he made his successful experience in France, but it was Brazilian, search the wikpédia

  • @CanterburyAtheists Du Temple was 1st in 1874 outside of Paris. The inventors of the "airplane", as we know it today, were the Wright brothers, as the dates they flew were and are irrelevant, it was their science/engineering that allowed others to successfully fly. Their study of airfoil design and their discovery of predictable lift/drift calculations, their concept of Inherent Instability, and their USP #821,393 was the foundation for ALL successful aircraft since, including the new Boeing787.

  • @historatia Wilbur Wright, after two summers of testing his gliders with his brother Orville down at Kitty Hawk, discovered that Lilienthal and Cayley had all errored in their theoritical studies on Lift/Drag calculations. on 18Sept, 1901 Wilbur was the keynote speaker at the Western Society of Engineers meeting in Chicago and in that presentation referred to Lilienthal's lift charts as a "red herring" and of no use to for designing airfoils (they weren't).

  • HISTORY LESSON: The first person to build and fly a heavier-than-air machine was the New Zealander Richard Pearce who flew 9 months before The Wright Brothers. The Wright Brothers were the first people to perform what is called ‘controlled’ flight. The first person to actual build & fly a mechanised plane, complete a powered-flight was Richard Pearce.

  • @trigerhappy33 Icarus & Deadelus? Da vinci? plenty of folk started working out how they could 'fly', some did, like Cayley (or at least, his coachman) and Lilienthal.

The Wright Brothers managed to get a powered aircraft up, and we respect them for that.

  • @warp13 You do the Wright Brothers severe disrespect. Most certainly they took knowledged developed by others, particularly Otto Lilienthal who developed the glider and flew off hills in Germany. The Wright brothers were indeed inventive and scientific in their approach including wind-tunnel testing to finally put it all together and allow sustainable development of manned powered flight. To build on the work of others is itself a form of genius. Einstein, for example never did an experiment!

  • They Invented the wind tunnel

    the propeller

made the first engine specifficaly for an aeroplane

created the control surfaces to provide lift and developed the tables others used later

They developed vertical and horizontal stabilizors and put the whole thing together in a system which worked.

    They rock !

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, it's not an invention unless it works. So there you go Edison did invent the first working electric light bulb

  • Iluv-And who said that Americans where? That is obviously your own personal view. Many people have immigrated to America and established themselves and invented things and made fortunes. Look at the motion picture industry for instance- Aside from Edison, I believe all of the major studios where started by people who immigrated from Europe.

  • if somethings invented the americans are so stupid they will say they ivented it just like edison invented the lightbulb and thats pure bullshit cause he did not invent the lighbulb

he just picked up were the other inventor left off and Edison made it work so my point is they all think Edison invented the lightbulb lol even I did till i actually looked it up alot a things were invented in canada germany france not just dumbass USA here your not the only smart people on the whole planet
