The questions im reading below need this clarification : "Synthetic life" as a label still applies to organisms that we've 'drastically altered' the genomes of. Its still life, and it was still created by 'man-made' or 'synthetic' means. The TRUE (industrial, so how the scientists use it) use of the term, however, refers to an organism whose entire genome was AUTHORED, or 'designed' by chemists in a lab. I hope that makes the issue easier to understand.

It's the modifcation of exisiting life, not creating life "from scratch" as you state. Big difference. There is no creation involved, only manipulation of existing materials. Very misleading if you have no idea what you're talking about..
And I'd also like the maker of this video to please explain more about what he means be 'synthetic replicators' and how they are 'everywhere, all over, and have been for so long'... I'm... not sure what you're talking about there...?

@0lS8 This is a video about memes and memetics. They are the "new replicators" which I am discussing.

this was uploaded in 2008, it's only in 2010 that synthetic life has been realized. hmm... makes me think this guy is from the future.

@pacoevangelista I am not aware of any major "synthetic life" developments in 2010. However, there *have* been a lot of recent self-promotion efforts using the *term* "synthetic life" - by people who *slightly* rearranged an existing living organism.
