Just lads from the farms and boys from the cities
Not meant to be soldiers we lay in the trenches
and we thank you for doing this for us!

Their mistake were: giving in to pressure to join, risking limbs and life for the benefit of Maxim, Renault or Krupp (producers of guns, tanks...), for showing hatred to men they don't even know, for leaving their own responsibilities (wife, kids, other family), and to realize they die in vain if they have the time to make that reflection.
You state correctly that some were forced, but that is what I mean by 'no god, no master'. Don't give in!

@horselover40 i respect the soldiers,and their sacrifice.how many soldiers do you know?i know that soldiers are not stupidand they are not murderers either.maybe a couple are but some school teachers and are child molesters,and some teachers lie their way into the job.its the exception,not the rule.its an easy statement to make-stupid or murderer-until you know a few soldiers personally.or even would be soldiers.perhaps a little naive some of them-but not stupid

@horselover40 the freedom woud have beeen different.and where it is true that there is no way to know for better or for worse,im glad i do not have to find out.for the Jews it would have been worse which makes me believe it would be worsefor me as well.i would not be allowed my own religion and i like the jewish people-never met one i havent liked yet.i would be in a very dangerous situation.my parents are outspoken and even if they would play dead im to stubborn to do that.

@NKismynextgoal i dont know if that is a helthy device since even though i know what the words mean in english as well as french,i do not understand what you mena by them.they could have many mean.im not entirely sure what you mean by"their mistakes" either.i dont believe that in fighting they made a mistake.even if they only fought because in fighting they had a chance at surviving where refusing meant certain death.or because they hoped for a better future for those that came after

Now, I live in Belgium, and the country is filled with cemeteries of those who fought and died for freedom, glory, honour and God. Most of them never got to know what war really was, until it was too late. Our generations have all the info we need, so if we have a duty it is to make sure that these boys' (no matter what side) death is not in vain and that we learn from their mistakes. Ni Dieu; ni maître! (no god, no master) is a healthy device.
@ThePrincessDenise
To be precise, I stated that a soldier that asks a god to protect him while he is killing that god's life, is not really thinking. Anyone who enlists now, and has all the information at hand about wars and world leaders, is also not really using his head. All I'm trying to say is: when you really think things through, you don't go off to a war because words like honour, duty, glory, will not convince you. Neither will you believe in god. It's are all fairytales.

@NKismynextgoal so what is your definition of freedom then?freedom to do as you like-to pillage,to rape,to help,to do good as you choose?or freedom from dictators perhaps,or from any form of government.freedom to speak or say nothing,be cruel or watch others be cruel and do nothing or to stop it.what is freedom?everything follows rules whether written or not from the ant to the elephant,the human the chimp the car even the .freedom does not exist.never has, never will.
