Black Robe is a 1991 film directed by Bruce Beresford. The screenplay was written by Irish-Canadian author Brian Moore, who adapted it from his novel of the same name.
The film's main character, Father LaForgue, is played by Lothaire Bluteau, with other cast members including Aden Young, Sandrine Holt, Tantoo Cardinal, August Schellenberg, Gordon Tootoosis and Raoul Trujillo. It was the first official co-production between Canada and Australia. It was shot entirely in the Canadian province of Quebec.

I saw it first in history class, we couldn't see the whole film but I tought it was amazing. Then I bought it on DVD

@ipeqi 'The New World' from Terrence Malick has stewardship to historical truths as well, Black Robe is not as giving, it's very harsh and resounding- which is not a bad thing. It is as difficult and cruel as it needed to be. Black Robe is based off a book, you could use World Cat Org to find it in the US Libraries.
