IBEX is a new NASA mission that will study the interaction between the solar wind and the material beyond our Solar System called the interstellar medium. The solar wind flowing out of the sun inflates a bubble that we call the heliosphere. IBEX's job is to study those boundaries and understand how they really work and tell us how the heliosphere is able to do the important job of protecting us here on Earth as well as astronauts in space from the dangerous galactic cosmic rays.

  • it's not a solar wind that pushes out the galactic electromagnetic radiation. its electromagnetic field of the sun that prevents those rays from coming in. Exactly in the same way the earth electromagnetic field prevents solar radiation from reaching the earth's surface.

common people! make some high quality documentaries. disinformation is a very very bad thing.

    tho NASA rules

  • They found a genious way to explain that, with that example.

Apart from that I always ask myself: Why do we make wars, why do we compete so much on earth instead of trying to reach out to this whole universe that's waiting too be discovered by us. Theres so much waiting for us...

  • Dang I never knew about this... Cool.

  • Results from IBEX

"No one knows what is creating the ENA (energetic neutral atoms) ribbon, but everyone agrees that it means the textbook picture of the heliosphere—in which the solar system's enveloping pocket filled with the solar wind's charged particles is plowing through the onrushing "galactic wind" of the interstellar medium in the shape of a comet—is wrong."

    So..Yeah, space is strange.

  • Watch the movie Doomsday 2012 and go ahead. Don't forget Haiti earthquake, Moreover Chile's earthquake was horrible - but it could have been so much worse!!!! Go ahead...but how that makes sense, I think we are destroying our planet. Isn't???? thanks.

  • i loled @ "why should we care?"

  • wow;).

  • " you can see that in this 'animation'...." of what we 'think' is beyond our solar system that is millions upon millions of miles in length.

  • are they really true???

  • yeah. not enough ion\electron density to see it.

    yet it's there

  • google plasma universe

    or electric universe
