by using Samurai sword to cut of a piece of paper hanging from ceiling just to train for concentration, blisters on hands and feethe kept swung the bats sometimes 500 to 1000 times a day absolutely amzing, i don't see anyone doing that today not even in the MLB except with HGH, 80% of them are on it since in the 80's. They should build the HALL OF SHAME right next to HOF in Cooperstown

that's right, too bad there was no option for Mr. Oh to come the MLB when he was playing, just wasn't meant to be, but Hideki Nomo changed that. Too bad u guys in the US missed out on him. No one can stand one leg and hit homeruns like he did no one and plaing the US with 700 more games, he definitely can surpass Aaron, He has hit homers off Carlton, Tom Seaver, Jim Palmer, Koosman, Bob Gibson who are all in HOF w/out any HGH. I have seen him play in Japan from 75-1980, and the trainng he did..

The first Japanese to play in MLB was Masanouri Murakami in 1964. Why was he able to come and Oh was not?

he was loaned to the US by his team in japan and upon the expiration of the contract, he decided to go back JAPAN. Much like Eiji Sawamura, the MLB sort of tricked japan to have him contract to play in the US but later it was found out that the contract was kind "illegal" the US backed out, i believe that was the story. Mr. Oh couldn't come here also was b/c of some political reason but it was only Hideki Nomo of Dodgers came to the US the door is now wide open for players in Japan to come

Oh, very interesting. The only reason I had heard was that he was homesick. He was a very good pitcher. I grew up in San Francisco in the 60s and he was a celebrity.

that could be the case, too much like Johjima of Seattle MAriners, he left b/c he wanted to finish his career in Japan also he was homesick as well in any case the door only opened till Nomo retired from Japan's MLB and signed up with an agent and the dodgers took chance on him and as they say, the rest is history now there are many japanese players in the US MLB even Mr. Oh said he would have loved to come here if there was an opportunity for him to come...

Between Murkami's time in SF and 1994 is it when Nomo came on scene, roughly 30 yrs have gone by I'm sure that there are many qualified players from Japan could have played in the US MLB but they couldn't all b/c of politics and greed on owners' part but if you look at Ichiro, Daisuke, or Matsui they are doing pretty well and setting up new records or tying some sort of records and it all thanks to Hideki Nomo

Nomo was practically unhittable when he first came on the scene. It stands to reason there were others who could've played but did not have the opportunity. I saw Ichiro hit the first inside the park home run in the history of the All Star Game while attending the 2007 ASG in San Francisco.

the thing is that if i understand correctly a player in Japan cannot be a free agent until he has played 7 yrs in Japan, which mean by the time they come here he will be 25 and a lot of time will be wasted assume he starts his career @ 18. A US scout should go to japan and scout a potential MLB during high school and place him in minor for a couple of yrs just like they do for baseball farm down DR so that he can adjust to the major much quicker.
